Reforestation in Panama
Since May 2026, we have been working together with The Generation Forest to support the reforestation of tropical mixed forests in Panama. New forests are being created on degraded land that protect the climate, strengthen biodiversity, and create opportunities for local communities.
It is important to us to take responsibility and support projects that create long-term benefits for both people and the environment. Climate change, biodiversity loss, and social challenges are closely interconnected and cannot be viewed in isolation. That is why, together with The Generation Forest, we support an approach that combines ecological and social impact. The focus is not on short-term planting initiatives, but on the long-term development of resilient mixed forests that create opportunities for local communities while strengthening natural habitats.
The Generation Forest is a cooperative based in Hamburg. In Panama, it is reforesting degraded agricultural and pastureland with new tropical mixed forests. These are not short-term planting projects and not monocultures, but resilient forests that are managed sustainably over the long term.
The Generation Forest principle follows a permanent cycle: native tree species are planted, maintained, and later used selectively, while continuous replanting takes place. This creates a mixed forest that captures CO2, stores water, regenerates soils, and provides habitat for wildlife.
Our partnership with The Generation Forest strengthens several areas at once: climate protection, biodiversity, healthy soils, and social opportunities for local communities. With each cooperative share, 500 m2 of new Generation Forest is created, which according to validated calculations captures at least 1 tonne of greenhouse gases per year over the long term.
The reforestation of diverse mixed forests creates new habitats for animal and plant species, protects soils from erosion, improves water retention, and supports fair employment and income opportunities in rural regions of Panama.
We communicate our commitment based on concrete and verifiable information. This includes transparent details about the impact as well as a partner that works in a long-term and transparent way.
